These toffee bars were a staple in our house growing up. Everyone always wanted to eat them and someone was usually down to make them. This is one of those recipes that produces insane results with the most basic of ingredients. And they're easy, very easy. You can customize the toppings as well - milk chocolate, dark chocolate, peppermint bark! pecans, walnuts, almonds, pistachios, coconut!Toffee bars - recipe adapted from Betty Crocker1 cup butter1 cup brown sugar1 egg yolk2 cups flour1/2 teaspoon salt6 ounces chocolate1/2 cup chopped almondssea salt for sprinklingInstructions:Preheat oven to 350 degrees.Beat butter and sugar till light and fluffy for a few minutes.Add egg yolk and beat until combined,Add flour and salt.Press into parchment lined 13x9 inch pan.Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.While still hot, sprinkle chocolate chips evenly across the top of the toffee bars. Let it sit for a few minutes then come back with a spatula or knife and smooth the chocolate across the top. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and salt.
